Richard C. Thauer,
77, well-known Watertown attorney, died
Funeral services were held at the
First Congregational United Church of Christ with the Rev. Robert Tully officiating.
Burial was in St. Henry's
Cemetery.
Thauer was born
Thauer was a graduate of Watertown High
School and the University of Wisconsin where he received his bachelor
of arts degree in 1922, master of arts degree in 1923 and law degree in
1927. He attended Columbia University from 1925 to 1926. Thauer
was admitted to the Wisconsin Bar in 1927. That same year he joined the law
firm of Skinner and Thauer and in February of 1977
completed 50 years as an attorney in Watertown.
He was Circuit Court Commissioner
from 1939 until the time of his death, a veteran of World War I,
and a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ. He was also a
member of the Watertown Elks Lodge, American Legion, Jefferson County Bar
Association and the Watertown Country Club.
Surviving are
his wife, one sister, Mrs. Wayne (Marion) Brown of Madison, nieces, nephews and
cousins.
He was preceded in death by one
brother; Wallace Thauer.
