Oswald Peters
1916-2003
Oswald "Ozzie" E. Peters, 86, of Watertown,
died
Funeral services were held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at
St. Henry’s Catholic Church. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Ozzie was born on June 3, 1916, in Woodland, son of
Arthur and Catherine (Christ) Peters. He was a 1934 graduate of Mayville High
School. On Oct. 16, 1941, he married the former Patricia Simon at St. Henry
Catholic Church.
Ozzie served in the United States Air Force as a
staff sergeant during World
War II. He retired from Wisconsin Telephone in 1977 after 35 years of
service.
Ozzie was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church, its
Usher Society, Catholic Knights Branch No. 120 and the former Holy Name
Society, where he served as past president. He was a member and past commander
of American Legion Post No. 189 and a member of its firing squad; member and
past president of AARP Chapter No. 3056; member of Watertown Senior and
Community Center; member and past president of Plattdeutscher Verein; member of
Rock River Telephone Pioneers; and a member and past president of the Watertown
Bowling Association. He had been a volunteer driver for the Jefferson County
Veterans Service Office.
Ozzie could be found at various locations in town as
he did his errands throughout the day. He was the raffle ticket king of
Watertown, lending his support to St. Henry Catholic Church, the American
Legion and any other organization of which he was a member.
