Marvin Derge

1928-2005

 

 

Marvin "Kip" J. Derge, 77, of Watertown, died on July 10, 2005, at his home.

 

A Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Watertown with the Rev. Bernard Rott officiating.

 

Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Watertown, with graveside military rites conducted by American Legion Post No. 189.

 

The 40 and 8 and American Legion Post No. 189 met at the funeral home as a group.

 

Memorials were suggested to the charity of one's choice.

 

Marvin was born June 21, 1928, in the town of Herman, son of Rudolph and Myrtl (Cole) Derge. Kip married the former Joyce Biefeld on Sept. 23, 1950, at St. Henry’s.

 

Kip attended Mayville High School and served with the United States Army, 45th Division, from January 1951 to August 1952, during the Korean War. He was also a member of the Reserves 84th Division for 33 years, retiring as a command sergeant major.

 

Kip had been employed as a salesman for several companies in the Watertown area. He had also been a driver for the Greater Milwaukee Auto Auction & Mid State Auto Auction of Jefferson.

 

Kip was a member of St. Henry’s in Watertown, serving as an usher for many years. He had also been a member of the Watertown Knights of Columbus, Watertown Elks Lodge and Watertown Country Club, where he loved to golf. He was also a member of the 40 and 8, elected Chef DeGare in 1997. He was a former state vice commander, commander, vice commander and chaplain of the Pitterie-Beaudoin American Legion Post No. 189. He was also a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3709.

 

The family requested that Kip's friends bring a story of a good time to share.

 

Surviving are his wife, Joyce Derge of Watertown; three daughters, Kathy Nelson, Gayle (Mark) Hunter and Lori (Randy) Krause, all of Watertown; four grandchildren, Melanie, Brian and Melissa Hunter and Hope Krause; two brothers, Willard (Delores) Derge of West Bend and Lloyd Derge of Jackson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Evelyn Derge and Virginia Schwandt.

 

The family would like to thank Rainbow Hospice for the phenomenal care they provided for Kip during some very difficult times.
